The Mortitx valley lays between Pollença and the Lluc monastery and it hosts a remarkable diversity of raptors. In spring and autumn numerous migratory birds fly over or rest in the area.
Mortitx also hosts numerous endemic plants, such as the Balearic St. John’s wort, Balearic delphinium, Balearic milkvetch and Pastinaca lucida. In the Mortitx valley we will dive into true wilderness with dramatic rock and mountains landscapes surrounding Holm oak and Aleppo pine forests, Mediterranean garrigues and ancient olive groves. Altogether these make the Serra de Tramuntana the largest and most spectacular wild area in the Balearics.
Black and Griffon vultures, Bonelli’s eagle, Peregrine, Kestrel, Red kite, Eleonora’s falcon (April-October). Other species that can be seen here are: Blue-rock thrush, Cirl bunting, Mediterranean flycatcher, Firecrest and Crossbill (the three last ones are endemic subspecies).
The tour consists of a walk through the forest, the vineyard and the ancient olive groves. It is possible to organize an optional wine tasting and lunch at the winery.
The Mortitx Valley can be combined with another half-day at Cuber reservoir or Albufereta for a full-day tour.
