Son Real is a large coastal sand dune system located in the southern part of Alcudia Bay.
In spring it is easy to find the Hermann’s tortoise wandering in the scrub areas as well as many orchid species (bug, bumblebee, small-flowered tongue, pyramidal, etc.). While searching for Audouin’s gulls and Mediterranean shags along the coast, we can visit the unique prehistoric necropolis of Son Real (7th-2nd century BC).
Here we will look for the elusive endemic Balearic warbler, the Balearic subspecies of both Crossbill and Firecrest, Hoopoe, Thekla’s lark, Red-legged partridge, Stone-curlew, among many others. Woodchat Shrike, Nightingale and Tawny pipit are common in spring and summer.
Audouin’s gulls and Mediterranean shags can be seen along the coast.
Son Real can be combined with another half-day tour to Son Bosc, Albufera or Albufereta for a full-day tour.
Bring binoculars and, if you have one, a camera (a spotting scope is optional). We recommend comfortable shoes, enough water, and some food. Depending on the weather: cap, sunscreen, insect repellent, warm clothing, and a raincoat.
